Aliya Jasensky, LMSW

AliysaAliya Jasensky, LMSW (she/her/they/them) received their Master’s degree in social work from the University of Connecticut in 2020 after six years of working in residential inpatient settings and group homes. Aliya completed her first field placement in an elementary school, providing social and emotional skills group counseling and providing a social-emotional curriculum in classrooms. At an outpatient clinic, Perspectives Center for Care, Aliya provided individual counseling for adults and facilitated an Intimate Partner Violence support group.

After graduating, Aliya worked as an IICAPS Clinician for Family and Children’s Aid. She provided intensive in-home treatment for children and families seeking to prevent psychiatric hospitalization or to support families during a child’s return home from hospitalization. She enjoyed the collaborative and thorough approach to healing families and helping clients improve their mental health, school performance, and social lives.

At SMPsychotherapy and Counseling Services, Aliya works with adolescents, families, and couples struggling with mental health concerns and relationship issues. She focuses on depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, bipolar disorder, trauma recovery, LTBTQIA+ and identity issues, domestic violence, parenting struggles, intimacy issues, and communication problems.

Using a person-centered approach, Aliya combines her background in art therapy, play therapy, and narrative therapy with more traditional dialectical behavior and cognitive behavioral therapy to help clients make meaningful changes in their lives. Aliya believes each client should determine the therapy focus, and she values building a meaningful therapeutic relationship.
