Amani Shirley, LMSW
Amani Shirley, LMSW, received her master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut in 2021 after completing a bachelor’s degree in legal studies and psychology. She enjoys social work because it allows her to help a broad range of people.
Amani has experience working with people with intellectual disabilities and providing home-based therapy services for children and families. Her work with high-risk children and adolescents helps families manage behavior concerns and mental health problems to create a harmonious home environment.
In addition to working with children and families, Amani combines her knowledge of the criminal justice system and social work to provide case management for people recently released from prison with substance use disorder. She assists clients with finding suitable housing and employment and offers relapse-prevention counseling.
At SMPsychotherapy, Amani is available to work with adolescents, couples, families, and adults during evening and weekend hours. She offers therapy for substance abuse, relapse prevention, people impacted by the criminal justice system, dual diagnosis, anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, body image, communication issues, and rebuilding family relationships. Amani is particularly interested in working with people of color.
Amani uses the modalities of motivational interviewing and solution-focused therapy to help clients feel empowered to live better lives. She believes offering real-life solutions and strategies can improve clients’ ability to navigate difficult situations.
Therapy with Amani is relaxed and compassionate. She offers a judgment-free space where clients can speak freely. Don’t let the stigma around mental health care keep you from reaching out. Contact our office today to schedule an appointment with Amani.
