Chevonne Smith, LCSW
Chevonne Smith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker skilled at holding compassionate space for clients to work through mental health issues. Chevonne knew she wanted to be a therapist since middle school when she began to understand the way poverty, racism, and other cultural stressors affect mental health. She received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Connecticut.
Since receiving her degree, Chevonne has worked at the Mount Sinai campus at St. Francis hospital, where she works to stabilize patients’ mental health with mood disorders, trauma, and emergency department crisis. She also works in the children’s unit for behavioral and mental health for ages 5-17. Chevonne also works extensively with veterans suffering from PTSD after their deployment experiences.
Chevonne wants to grow her skills as a clinician by working long-term with clients. In her position at the hospital, she sees patients for five days or less and doesn’t have the opportunity to provide long-term care and see her patients’ growth.
With SMPsychotherpay and Counseling Services, Chevonne is available for adults, families, and children dealing with various mental health concerns. She specializes in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing with her clients. Chevonne works with people suffering from anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, substance abuse disorder, or family and relationship problems.
When working with clients, Chevonne excels at empathy and active listening, allowing clients to feel heard and understood. Her goal is to help clients manage mental health issues and develop coping skills to navigate life’s stressors easily. Chevonne wants her clients to live a joyful, fulfilled life.
