Danika Okasia, LMSW, is a dedicated therapist who empowers her clients, providing them with the skills to navigate mental health challenges. She earned her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut. With a passion rooted in addressing mental health disparities, especially within the African-American community, Danika brings a unique perspective to SMPsychotherapy
Danika began her career at an agency, specializing in mobile crisis intervention. Subsequently, she contributed her expertise to the Intensive In-Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services (IICAPS) program within the same agency, followed by her role at the Department of Children and Families in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Danika specializes in treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, autism, and various mental health diagnoses. Her expertise extends to trauma, especially with children. Utilizing diverse modalities, Danika employs play therapy for children, genograms to explore backgrounds, and talk therapy. She also incorporates EMDR, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing to tailor interventions to each client’s needs.
Danika’s goal is to empower her clients, providing them with the skills to navigate challenges independently. She aims to instill a sense of self-efficacy, ensuring clients feel equipped to manage their mental health autonomously.
Danika builds connections by sharing personal experiences, fostering rapport, and creating a comfortable space for clients to open up. Balancing professionalism with relatability, she establishes trust while maintaining necessary boundaries.
Outside of her therapeutic endeavors, Danika enjoys showcasing her creativity through hairstyling and makeup. This personal touch reflects her commitment to holistic well-being and adds a unique dimension to her profile.
