Denisse Ortiz, LMFTA
Denisse Ortiz, LMFTA, a Marriage and Family Therapist, began her education as a communications major before she discovered her passion for psychology. She completed her undergraduate studies at Central Connecticut State University, majoring in Psychology with a minor in communications. She graduated with her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2011.Â
During college, Denisse worked as a vocational counselor at a community mental health center, providing her with invaluable experiences. After graduating, her career began in private practice, where Throughout her career, she also held positions in various agencies.Â
Denisse has a passion for working with diverse clients. Her specialties include assisting individuals, families, and couples dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, substance abuse, immigration, life changes, autism, ADHD, chronic illness, those in transition, LGBTQIA+ concerns, managing acculturation, and stress management.
Denisse uses a variety of therapeutic modalities to tailor her approach to each client’s unique needs. These approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, Internal Family Systems, relaxation techniques, strength-based methods, and Christian counseling. She also utilizes motivational interviewing to guide individuals and families toward positive change.
Denisse firmly believes in the importance of breaking generational patterns as a fundamental aspect of achieving mental wellness. Her primary goal for her clients is to help them evaluate family dynamics and their impact. She is valued for her reliability and the comfort she provides during sessions, and clients also appreciate her tone of voice, energy, and presence. She has the ability to use humor to create a more relaxed and open atmosphere.Â
Denisse actively helps her patients find educational and community resources to further support their healing journey. She wants her clients to be able to recognize their own progress and what they have accomplished. The goal is for therapy to end with a bag of skills to pull from when needed.
Christian values guide Denisse’s life, and she brings this perspective into her practice to provide a holistic approach to therapy. Outside of work, she has a deep love for animals and enjoys spending time with her family, particularly her nephews and cousins.
