Dr. Maxine Williams, MPCL
Dr. Maxine Williams, MPCL, joins SMPsychotherapy and Counseling Services with over 25 years of experience counseling as a minister. During her work in the church, Dr. Williams realized her parishioners needed more than prayer – they needed to develop coping skills that would allow them to build the life God intended. She returned to school for a Master’s in educational counseling and then a Ph.D. in humanitarian studies from Hart University. She currently ministers at King’s Chapel Church of God.
Dr. Williams has experience working with children with disabilities, providing family counseling, and working with various mental health conditions, including trauma and substance abuse. She’s excited to work in private practice, where she looks forward to a patient-centered approach allowing her time to help clients heal. In addition to her role as a minister, she volunteers, teaches Sunday school and has experience advocating for seniors and doing outreach ministry with prison populations.
Dr. Williams assists teens and adults with substance use disorder, trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, life transitions, and other mental health concerns. She uses cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness practices, and faith-based counseling to meet clients where they are and help them achieve overall wellness.
If you’re struggling with mental health issues and desire a life of connection and success, Dr. Williams can help. She provides a nonjudgmental environment where her listening skills allow clients to show up as they are and express themselves freely. She partners with clients to analyze and solve problems.
When clients require community resources for optimum success, Dr. Williams uses her many connections to agencies, churches, and other resources to provide clients with precisely what they need to build a beautiful life. When she isn’t preaching or working in her many counseling roles, Dr. Williams fosters children who need love and support, spending time with family, and enjoying nature.
