What if healing isn’t about becoming someone new, but finding your way back to who you already are?

Stephanie Thibault, LCSW, appreciates Oscar Wilde’s words, “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” It’s a simple reminder that there is value in understanding yourself, honoring your experiences, and creating space to heal without losing who you are along the way.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and EMDR-trained therapist, Stephanie brings experience, clinical depth, and a grounded presence to her work. At SMPsychotherapy & Counseling Services, one of her primary areas of focus is EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for adults experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety, distressing memories, and emotional responses connected to difficult or overwhelming experiences.

Sometimes the mind knows an experience is over, yet the body and emotions continue responding as though it is still happening. Through EMDR, Stephanie helps clients safely explore and process experiences that may continue to influence their thoughts, emotions, reactions, and everyday lives. Her trauma-focused approach is thoughtful and paced around the individual—because healing should never feel like a race.

That philosophy fits Stephanie naturally. Outside of her clinical work, she enjoys reading, running, horseback riding, and spending time with her family. As a trained meditation instructor and Reiki practitioner, she also brings a broader appreciation for mindfulness, self-awareness, and the connection between emotional and physical well-being to her understanding of the whole person.

Stephanie works with young adults, adults, veterans, and older adults across different seasons of life. Whether someone has lived with the effects of trauma for years or is beginning to recognize how past experiences may be affecting the present, she offers a professional, compassionate space to begin doing deeper work.
Stephanie also joins SM Psychotherapy & Counseling Services as a Clinical Supervisor, supporting clinicians in strengthening their clinical skills, professional development, ethical practice, and confidence in providing thoughtful, effective care.

Healing doesn’t require becoming somebody else. Sometimes it begins with understanding what you’ve carried—and discovering what life can feel like when you no longer have to carry it in the same way.
