Thomas Allen, LMSW
Telehealth Therapist for Children, Teens, Parents, and Families in Connecticut
Supporting children, teens, parents, and families through life’s challenges takes more than quick advice. It takes a therapist who knows how to build trust, create safety, and help people move toward real change. Thomas Allen, LMSW, is a compassionate telehealth therapist at SMPsychotherapy & Counseling Services who works with children ages 10 and older, adolescents, parents, and families across Connecticut.
Thomas brings more than two decades of experience in social work, student support, school-based mental health, leadership, and crisis response. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with children, teens, educators, and families in both clinical and educational settings. His background includes school social work, counseling, trauma-informed support, crisis intervention, restorative practices, and social-emotional development.
Thomas is especially skilled at helping clients who may be struggling with stress, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, school-related concerns, behavioral challenges, family conflict, life transitions, identity-related concerns, and difficulties with emotional regulation. He creates a supportive and thoughtful space where clients can feel heard, understood, and empowered.
He is also passionate about working with individuals who identify as Black, Brown, or as a person of color. Thomas values creating an affirming, culturally responsive therapeutic space where clients can feel seen, respected, and supported in the fullness of who they are and what they have experienced.
His approach is grounded, relational, and practical. Thomas works to help clients better understand themselves, strengthen communication, manage emotions more effectively, and build healthier relationships at home, in school, and in daily life. He values collaboration and understands the importance of working with both young people and the families who support them.
Thomas provides telehealth therapy only, making it easier for clients and families across Connecticut to access care from the comfort and privacy of home.
