Dr. Raquel Warley, PhD, MSW
Dr. Raquel Warley, PhD, MSW is a mental and behavioral health educator, clinician, philosopher, & scholar. Her extensive educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College School of Criminal Justice, three graduate degrees, a Master of Arts in criminal justice from John Jay College, a Master of Social Work from Hunter College, and a Master of Philosophy from the City University of New York, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in social welfare from the City University of New York.
With a rich academic history, Dr. Warley served as faculty in the School of Social Work at California State University, Los Angeles, holding roles such as Interim Director of Field Education and BSW Program Director. Following her tenure at California State University, she was the chief administrator for the Office of Field Education at Adelphi University.
Dr. Warley brings two decades of clinical and research experience to her practice. She served as a clinician for the Employee Assistance Program at Mount Sinai Medical Center, specializing in organizational/clinical social work. Her roles included providing crisis counseling, referral services, and training managers to address performance-related issues.
Beyond academia, Dr. Warley served as a forensic examiner for the Pasadena Juvenile Court and as a consultant for the Education-Based Incarceration program in the Offender Services Bureau for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Dr. Warley is a seasoned practitioner with expertise in generalist practice, specializing in trauma. Understanding that her clients know themselves better than anyone and that the relationship she builds with her clients is the backbone of positive therapeutic outcomes, she focuses on building strong therapeutic relationships, and understanding that her client’s goals are paramount. She employs an eclectic approach, drawing from various practice theories to meet clients where they are, letting them control where they go according to their comfort level.
Inspired by SMP’s dedication, Dr. Warley is committed to working with and supporting undocumented individuals, refugees, and asylum seekers. She believes in addressing not only mental health but also the broader spectrum of clients’ needs. Considering the basic needs of her clients, she always has communal resources in her toolbox. Her experiences and dedication to holistic well-being set her apart, making her a compassionate and resourceful mental health professional.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Warley enjoys spending time with her family, working out, and unwinding with movies. Dr. Warley is available on weekdays with some weekend availability, offering flexibility to accommodate clients’ schedules.
