Idena Maynard-Epps, LCSW
Idena Maynard-Epps, LCSW, received her Master’s degree from the Silberman school of social work in 2012. She has worked with children, families, and adults with intellectual disabilities. She began working for Good Shepherd Services in New York as a case planner and now works as a program director bringing resources to help families stay together and thrive.
Idena works with groups, individuals, and families to make positive behavioral changes, improve communication patterns, communicate boundaries, and approach problems from various angles. She joins SMPsychotherapy and Counseling Services to provide direct therapeutic services to families because, in her agency work, she’s seen the need for direct therapeutic services for families experiencing challenges.
In her work with families, Idena sees every human issue. She works with families experiencing depression, anxiety, parenting challenges, life changes, substance use disorder, intimate partner and domestic violence, and other mental health issues. She aims to discover factors contributing to a family’s dysfunction, find solutions and build off what has worked in the past. Idena uses solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and narrative therapy.
Idena understands that successful family therapy requires building supportive, collaborative relationships between the therapist and each family member. She creates a nonjudgmental space where families can discuss the most difficult topics, understand each perspective, and develop the skills they need to build harmony in the family unit. Idena is now accepting new clients in CT via Telehealth.
