Kelly Zando, LMSW

kelly zandoKelly Zando, LMSW, provides client-centered therapy and specializes in working with children and families. She received her master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University in 2017 and is a certified elementary educator and social worker.

Kelly has worked in inpatient settings with adults and has a plethora of experience providing home-based and school-based therapy services to children, teens, and young adults. She’s worked with children with various mental health conditions in a specialized school setting while helping their families develop strategies for creating a harmonious home environment. As a lifelong learner, Kelly seeks opportunities to improve her clinical skills and add additional experience and certifications to her resume.

With SMPsychotherapy and Counseling Services, Kelly offers virtual therapy to children, teens, adults, couples, and families. She can help with autism spectrum disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, parenting challenges, creating home and school behavior plans, positive reinforcement, executive functioning issues, anger management, communication skills for families, couples counseling, self-esteem building, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and oppositional defiant disorder.

Therapy with Kelly is an individualized experience. She uses traditional therapy techniques like cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy and incorporates strategies such as play therapy, guided discovery, stress tolerance skills, and emotional regulation. She’s also a believer in the power of pet therapy. Kelly’s certifications include, Provisional Elementary Educator, Practical Strategies for Challenging Behaviors, Child and Adolescent Anger Management, and SMARTS Executive Functioning Program

Kelly specializes in building rapport and focuses first on establishing trust with her clients. She provides a safe, nonjudgmental space and isn’t afraid to get creative with her sessions. She’s done virtual walks with clients and connected with them through their hobbies and pets.
